Classic And Vintage Cars Ireland

Import a car into Ireland from Brazil?

I’ve discovered that Volkswagen still manufacture the classic Volkswagen camper t2 and thought it would be a lot more conventional to purchase a new one than buy a vintage rust bucket!

I’m wondering about the possibility of importing one and what costs the process would imply!

Danbury motors has a nice Brazilian import and conversion process but they’re a rip off!! http://www.danburymotorcaravans.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7&Itemid=19

Here is the vw Brazil site http://www.volkswagen.com/br/pt/modelos/kombi.html

Hope someone can help me!

I would think long and hard before calling them a rip off. Just think
Buy vehicle in Brazil -> get ripped off with currency import, cheque gets lost
Ship to Ireland -> get ripped off by shipping agent, paperwork gets lost
Lost on voyage -> get ripped off by insurers, no evidence
Arrive in Ireland -> pay import duties or else
Vehicle breaks down -> great difficulties with honouring guarantee
It’s going to be a left-hand drive vehicle unless you pay for the conversion.

Why give yourself the trouble?
