The thought that autism can be medicated or potentially cured through diet is not accepted very well, as the typical thought is that it can’t be cured. As of yet there are a lot of people who say they have had accomplishments when treating their autistic children with those modes.
Evidence linking autism to parents who have children when their are older has been brought forward as a possible cause. Children are more likely to have autism the older the mother of the child is. To a lesser degree the father’s age can also play a factor. Autism diagnosis has increased in recent years and this can be explained by the fact that parents are waiting longer to have children. Particularly in countries that are wealthier nations or more developed. However, a majority of children born to older parents are healthy, and young parents can also have autistic children, this is only a possible cause. The truth remains though that the risk for having a child with autism is greater the older a parent is.
Some researchers seem to think that the incidence of autism is rising because of environmental toxins. Heavy metals, such as mercury and lead, could be a part of the reason for the increase in people diagnosed with autism. Many of the household chemicals we use contain harmful toxins, as does pesticide, and they all have been linked to some likely causes of autism. Compared to the past, today’s society is bombarded with higher levels than ever of chemicals and toxins. Research is still being conducted to determine whether these are a likely cause of autism. Some experts still debate whether the incidence of autism is actually more prevalent, or whether the diagnosis is now more widely given than previously.
